Our Care and Repair service has a big impact on the lives of older people living in North Lanarkshire.
Our team focuses on helping people remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible.
We give our clients advice and information on a varied range of subjects, and encourage them to take additional steps to secure their homes.
Our staff recognise the importance of taking the time to get to know our clients, many of whom are socially isolated and can go days without speaking to someone. The case studies on this page come from our clients and team members, who have shared their stories with us.
- Ms K
One of our plumbers visited a client who mentioned there had been a few occasions when she had passed out and fallen, and as a result, she didn’t like leaving the house.
Ms K had a walking aid, but wasn’t sure how to use it. Our plumber took the walking aid out of the cupboard, made sure all the screws were secured and showed Ms K how to use it. Once Ms K felt comfortable using the walking aid, he then gave her the number for Dial-a-Bus to encourage her to safely leave her home.
- Mr and Mrs S
A member of our team paid a visit to two of our clients, Mr and Mrs S, to discover that Mrs S was suffering from disturbed sleep due to her husband waking up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.
Mr S has dementia and when he switched on the bathroom light the fan came on with it, which frightened and confused him.
Due to the design of the light, there was no way of separating the light from the fan – so to avoid Mr S having to switch on the light, our staff member fitted LED lights round the bathroom door.
Now Mr S can use the bathroom safely at night and Mrs S can enjoy a good night's sleep, free of disturbances.
- Mr B
A member of our Care and Repair team noticed that one of our clients was having difficulties opening the doors in his home due to stiff handles.
To help Mr B, our team member replaced the old handles with new round ones that were easier to use. Mr B is now able to move around his home without having to ask his wife to open doors for him.
